A bipolar plate for a fuel cell is provided. The bipolar plate having flow channels for oxidant gas; said flow channels for oxidant gas comprising one or more grooves each representing a serpentine path; wherein each said serpentine path independently comprises N consecutive legs L1, L2,... L N; connected to each other by N-1 consecutive turn sections, T1, T2.... T N-1; wherein each leg L1, L2.... L N-1 being lengthwise separated from its consecutive leg L2, L3,...L N by a wall section, W1, W2,... W N-1; wherein each turn section representing a 180° change of flow direction of oxidant gas; wherein N is an odd integer of 3 or more; and wherein one or more of the wall sections W1, W2,... W N-1 independently comprise one or more by-pass channels for allowing oxidant gas to flow via a short cut from one leg L x to its consecutive leg L x+1; 1 <= x <= N-1; thereby by passing a part of the leg L x and a part of the leg L x+1. Furthermore, a cooling plate having a similar design is provided. The bipolar plate as well as the cooling plate provide for more efficient supply of fluids over the surface of the plate.

L'invention concerne une plaque bipolaire pour pile à combustible. La plaque bipolaire comprend des canaux d'écoulement pour un gaz oxydant. Les canaux d'écoulement pour gaz oxydant comprennent une ou plusieurs rainures dont chacune represente un trajet en serpentin. Chacun des trajets en serpentin comporte indépendamment N branches consécutives L1, L2,... LN connectées entre-elles par N - 1 sections de changement de direction consécutives T1, T2,...TN - 1. Chaque branche L1, L2,...LN - 1 est longitudinalement séparée de sa branche consécutive L2, L3,...LN par une section de paroi, W1, W2,... WN - 1. Chaque section de changement de direction représente un changement à 180° de direction d'écoulement du gaz oxydant. N est un entier impair de 3 ou plus ; une ou plusieurs des sections de paroi W1, W2,...WN - 1 comprend indépendamment un ou plusieurs canaux de dérivation permettant au gaz oxydant de s'écouler par un raccourci d'une Lx à sa branche consécutive Lx + 1; 1 = x = N - 1, ce qui court-circuite ainsi une partie de la branche Lx et une partie de la branche Lx + 1. En outre, l'invention concerne une plaque de refroidissement de conception similaire. La plaque bipolaire ainsi que la plaque de refroidissement assurent une alimentation fluidique plus efficace sur la surface de la plaque.
