A breathing apparatus (10) including a mouth--piece (13) and a carbon dioxide removal area (18) disposed between the mouthpiece and an air reservoir chamber (19). The chamber is preferably filled with a foam material (27) and is further in communication with ambient air (29) to enable mixing with expired air within the chamber (19). The breathing apparatus (10) is useful for simulating the lower partial pressure of oxygen at high altitude, hence it may be used by athletes for simulating "living at altitude". Image

L'invention concerne un appareil de respiration (10) comprenant un embout (13) et une zone d'élimination de dioxyde de carbone (18) placée entre l'embout et une enceinte réservoir d'air (19). L'enceinte est, de préférence, remplie d'un matériau en mousse (27) et elle est, en outre, en communication avec l'air ambiant (29) afin de permettre, à l'intérieur de l'enceinte (19) un mélange avec l'air expiré. L'appareil de respiration (10) est utile pour simuler la pression partielle d'oxygène plus faible qui règne à haute altitude, et peut donc être utilisé par des athlètes afin de simuler la vie en altitude.
