A device for lowering a load along a metal band (2) comprises a brake housing (4) accomodating a brake mechanism with at least one brake shoe (14, 16; 34, 36; 54, 56; 74, 76) which acts on the metal band (2). The brake shoe (14, 16; 34, 36; 54, 56; 74, 76) is pressed against the metal band (2) by a force which depends on the mass or load. The load is suspended from a load wedge (17; 37; 57; 77) which, in the brake mechanism, converts a pull substantially in the longitudinal direction of the metal band (2) to a pressure acting on the metal band (2) through said brake shoe (14, 16; 34, 36; 54, 56; 74, 76).
Dispositif destiné à faire descendre une charge le long d'une bande (2) métallique qui comporte un carter de frein abritant un mécanisme de frein doté d'au moins un sabot (14, 16; 34, 36; 54, 56; 74, 76) de frein qui agit sur la bande métallique (2). Ledit sabot de frein (14, 16; 34, 36; 54, 56; 74, 76) est poussé contre la bande métallique (2) par une force qui dépend de la masse de la charge. Ladite charge est suspendue à un coin (17; 37; 57; 77) de charge qui convertit, à l'intérieur du mécanisme de frein, une traction dans la direction pratiquement longitudinale de la bande métallique (2) en une pression agissant sur la bande métallique (2) grâce au sabot (14, 16; 34, 36; 54, 56; 74, 76) de frein.
