It comprises spreading on the insects or their habitat quantities of at least 0.01% of quinoline-8-carboxylic acid derivatives of the general formula: Image wherein: R is hydrogen, halogen or alkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; X is NH2 or the group OY in which Y is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, manganese, an aliphatic or cyclic amine containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or an alkanolamine; or their N-methyl halogenides.
