ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A paint composition comprising pigment particles coated with a polymer is produced which has improvements in uniformity of particle size and dispersion of pigment particles as compared with presently available paints. This paint composition is obtained by contacting a finely divided pigment with a radical- polymerizable vinyl monomer in an aqueous or alcoholic medium containing bisulfite ions. The polymerization proceeds spontan- eously with the pigment particles and bisulfite ions acting as polymerization initiator.
