PH/5-18197/A Novel sulfonylureas Abstract: N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-pyrimidinyl- and -triazinyl-ureas of formula I Image (I) wherein R is hydrogen or C1-C4alkyl; R1 is hydrogen, halogen, C1-C5alkyl, C2-C5alkenyl, C1-C4haloalkyl, COO-R2 or A-R3; R2 is C1-C5alkyl; R3 is C1-C5alkyl, C2-C4alkoxyalkyl or C1-C5haloalkyl; X is C1-C3alkyl, C1-C3alkyl mono- to tri-substituted by halogen; C1-C3alkoxy or C1-C3alkoxy mono- to tri-substituted by halogen; A is oxygen, sulfur, SO or SO2; Y is halogen, C1-C3alkyl, C1-C3alkyl mono- to tri-substituted by halogen; C1-C3alkoxy, C1-C3alkoxy mono- to tri-substituted by halogen; cyclopropyl, methylamino or dimethylamino; E is nitrogen or the methine group; and Z is fluorine or chlorine; and the salts of those compounds with amines, alkali or alkaline earth metal bases or with quaternary ammonium bases have good pre- and post-emergence selective herbicidal and growth-regulating properties.
