There is provided use of orally available or topically applied deferiprone for prevention of iron-induced eye damage. The use may be for preparation of a medicament or in a method of preventing iron-induced eye damage to an eye of a subject at risk for iron-induced eye damage, the method comprising administering a prophylactically effective amount of deferiprone to the subject. There is also provided the use of deferiprone for treatment of iron-related eye disorders.
