For your pioneering work and passion for safety at sea, we had the first maritime survival and safety center for mariners and fishermen in the world established in Iceland 1985 and due to your invention the Markusnet and the training possibilities and knowhow that came with it hundreds lives at sea have been saved. Thanks to the existance of requirments for Markusnet on all vessels in Iceland from 1986 and deathless year at sea 2008 and 2011 we have now a regulation in the International convention SOLAS III/17-1 which require plan, procedure and solution to recovery of person from the water based on risk assessment for all ships.
