ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An improved process for the preparation of cobalt (II) acetylacetonate by reaction of cobalt (II) compounds with acetylacetone at elevated temperature is disclosed, wherein the reaction is carried out in an organic solvent which is immiscible with water, and forms with water an azeotropic mix- ture, in the vicinity of the boiling temperature of this azeo- tropic mixture. This process is particularly interesting in that the obtained product is anhydrous or at least can readily be dried to an anhydrous state.
