ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cutting recording apparatus in which a cutting stylus connected with a piezoelectric ceramic member for generating a mechanical vibration in response to an electrical signal to be recorded is secured to the free end of a cantilever with the other end thereof supported on a cantilever support. The cutting stylus is elastically pressed against a recording medium which is driven to rotate. The component of change of pressure between the cutting stylus and the recording medium which pressure changes in accordance with the unevenness of the surface of the recording medium is made to be offset by the component of change of the lifting force of the cutting stylus which force changes in accordance with the change of the cutting angle of the cutting stylus changing in accordance with the unevenness of the surface of the recording medium, thus forming a contour or a signal contour corresponding to the electrical signal sequentially at a predetermined depth from the surface of the recording medium regardless of the unevenness of the recording medium.
