ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: When altering the dimensions of a strand in continuous casting and while casting proceeds and for the purpose of achieving a short displacement time with little risk of break- out, the relationship between the displacement speeds of two devices for moving the mould wall is altered, at least during a portion of the time over which the pivotal movement of the mould wall extends, and the position of the pivotal axis of the mould wall is displaced parallel to its initial position.
