"VARIABLE DRIVE FOR PUMP JACK" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The motor for driving a pump jack is slidably mounted so that it can be shifted toward or away from the pump jack. The motor is equipped with a variable pitch traction belt sheave. A jack shaft, carrying a traction belt sheave and a V-belt sheave, is mounted between the motor and the gear box sheave of the pump jack. A traction belt connects the motor and jack shaft sheaves; a V-belt connects the jack shaft and gear box sheaves. The pumping speed of the pump jack can be adjusted by moving the motor - this draws the traction belt down into the variable pitch sheave, thereby affecting the speed of the traction belt drive.
