ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Hospital and like equipment is decontaminated after washing, by being subjected to a short shock of hot, moist air. The temperature ranges from 350°C to 800°C, and is preferably maintained at, or above 500°C, the treatment time being a matter of seconds only. A receptacle for the equipment may be provided with means permitting the washing of the equipment, while placed in the receptacle. Automatic governing means is provided to shut off the receptacle from the circulation system during the wash- ing operation, and to start the circulation and the heating as well as opening a shut-off valve to the receptacle, when the washing is finished.
