ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention relates to a sheet distri- bution method for distributing a plurality of sets of sheets from a copying machine into separate bins of a plurality of collating apparatus operatively connected to the copying machine. Where the collation data exceeds the effective processing ability requiring multiple times of collation with empty collators, the number of volumes corresponding to that of empty collators is stored in a first register and the rest in a second register. The content of this first register is displayed on a fed sheet number display. The numeral indication on this display does not return to 0 at the instant the collation of the volumes stored in the first register has completed but keeps on incrementing thereafter from the existing count. The operator can readily see the transient state of collation by comparing the nume- rical indication on a copy number display and that on the fed sheet number display.
