ABSTRACT A method and apparatus is provided for producing wood pulp in a wood grinder. Wood is fed to a grindstone against which the wood is pressed by two wood-supply shafts, each of which has a pressure gate. The grindstone is mounted in a pressure-tight housing into which water is fed. The wood is ground at a positive pressure and at water temperatures above 100°C. The pulp produced is collected in a trough under the grindstone. A draining worm located in or after the trough drains the pulp to concentrate it and recover water under pressure. A water-drainpipe is connected at one end to the worm and at the other end to a pressurized water tank. A return line connects the water tank to the housing to deliver the recovered water to the grinding area. The concentrated pulp is relieved to atmospheric pressure after passage through a pulp-discharge line.
