ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Silanol end-stopped diorganopolysiloxane oils having a viscosity from 1,000 to 100,000 centipoise at 25°C., where at least one of the organo substituent groups on the silicon atoms is an aliphatic radical of three or more carbon atoms are produced by reacting a cyclic tetra- siloxane, alone, or in admixture with a second cyclic poly- siloxane, at a temperature in the range of 40 to 140°C, in the presence of 5 to 300 parts per million of a catalyst selected from potassium hydroxide, cesium hydroxide, and silanolates thereof, and water. The products of the process are useful in producing room temperature curing silicone elastomers.
