ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel hexahydropyrazinoindole of the formula Image is obtained by reacting 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro- quinoline with an inorganic acid halide selected from an inorganic acid chloride and an inorganic acid bromide, and then converting the 1-(2-haloethyl)-2-halomethylindoline so formed to the desired compound by treatment with benzylamine. This compound is an intermediate for the preparation of compounds having utility for the treatment of hypertension.
