A crushing apparatus comprising first and second crushing jaws with each of the crushing jaws having a crush- ing surface. The crushing surfaces are arranged to define an acute angle no larger than about 45 degrees and to at least partially define a crushing cavity for receiving ma- terial to be crushed. The crushing jaws are relatively mov- ed along a path generally parallel to the crushing surface of the first jaw so that the spacing between the crushing surfaces does not vary with the relative movement of the jaws. The relative movement between the jaws can be linear or rotational.
