ABSTRACT Thymidine phosphorylase counteracts antagonists to anti- folate agents in media used for testing the susceptibility of bacteria to anti-folate antimicrobial agents. A solution of thymidine phosphorylase may be stabilised by addition of inorganic phosphate and uracil, the stabilisation being most effective at pH7. Furthermore, bovine serum albumin as added to prevent loss of enzymic activity on filtration. The solution may be kept sterile by addition of sodium or potassium azide.
