ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hand held spot welding gun appliance for a con- sumable arc welding rod electrode comprises a housing, a welding head spring-loaded for linear movement relative to the housing, and a linear guide latching means. An electrode holder is mounted for linear movement relative to the housing and the welding head, under control of the latching means, for forward feed of a welding rod in response to advancing movement of the housing relative to the welding head. Adjustable stop means are included for limiting the forward feed, thereby to set the maximum feed of a welding rod for a spot weld. A timing switch is provided for switching the welding current on and off, and it includes time adjustment means adjustable from the exterior of the gun to set the on-time of the switch.
