4274-A ROTARY SHOULDERED CONNECTION MODIFICATION Abstract A rotary shouldered pin and box connection in an earth boring drill string is modified by eliminating some threads of the box to form a cylindrical portion and similarly cutting away some threads on the outer end of a pin to form a cylindrical portion. A sleeve is positioned in the box cylindrical portion to receive the pin end, with the result that bending forces are transmitted through the sleeve rather than through the threaded connection.
