ABSTRACT A door actuating mechanism is provided for a sliding door, the mechanism including an electric motor which drives an arm through a gear box the arm being coupled via a linkage to a point on the door and the linkage is such as to incorporate pivot means which is movable along a guideway, the pivot means being resiliently biassed towards one end of the guideway to permit movement along the guideway of the pivot means in the event of the door encountering an obstruction in its path towards the closed position.
