ABSTRACT The invention relates to a closure for a canister of extruded plastic having a capacity in the 20-30 liter range, the canister having a one-piece threaded plastic nipple with an external thread, and a metallic collar coaxial with the nipple which, at its sides, has a pair of eyelets for a claw closure, and to which a lid is articulated carrying a tiltable double claw adapted to cooperate with the eyelets. The canister also has a ring seal on the lid held in an annular groove formed by an inwardly bent outer annular peripheral flange, an annular region of the lid bottom, and an inner annular flange bent inward, with an annular counter-surface at the closure for the ring seal, and a coaxial internal ring in the threaded nipple which with a radial flange engages over the threaded nipple and which has in its region facing toward the canister handels a venting device. The canister also has the internal ring integral with the collar and made of light metal with the internal ring having an axial internal thread with an inside diameter of approximately 5.6 cm and an outside diameter of approximately 5.9 cm (U.S. standard thread for 20 1 canisters), and with the radial face of the collar and the radial face of the internal ring being in radial alignment and set off from each other by an annular groove into which the inner flange penetrates.
