IMPROVED SKI BINDING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A ski binding of the type usable with a ski boot having projections extending laterally from the sides of the boot. Typical projections are those on the side margins of an oversized plate secured to the bottom of the boot. The binding has a pair of spaced jaws which are adapted to be placed near the sides of the ski and to be moved laterally into overhanging relationship to the side projections on the ski boot when the ski boot is on the binding. A jaw release mechanism having a pivotal, spring biased lever causes the jaws to move toward and away from each other as a function of the pivotal movement of the lever in opposite directions relative to the ski. An adjustment member on the binding determines the amount of overhang of the jaws above the side margins of the side projections on the ski boot. The amount of overhang of the jaws determines the force required to open the jaws against the spring bias force of the jaw release mechanism. The adjustment member has a central, tubular element which projects upwardly from the binding and is depressed by the ski boot placed on the binding. A compression spring in the tubular element biases the adjustment member upwardly. The ends of the adjustment member have spaced teeth for intermeshing with respective teeth on respective jaws to releasably interconnect the adjustment member at a given height above the ski as a function of the weight of the skier using the binding. For skiers of medium weight, the jaws overhang the side projections of the ski boot by a medium amount. For a heavy weight skier, a maximum amount of overhang of the jaws is provided above the side projections of the ski boot.
