ABSTRACT The invention provides deep drawn can bodies for use in the food and beverage industry, the cans having been made from precoated flat-rolled sheet metal stock without damage to surfaces precoated with organic coating. The can end wall has a thickness which is substantially equal to starting gage of the sheet metal stock and the side wall has an average thickness over its height which is substantially less than starting gage of the sheet metal stock.
