ABSTRACT This invention relates to novel thiazolones of the formula Image wherein R1 is a hydrogen or (C1-C4)alkyl group, and R2 is a pyridyl or pyridylmethyl group op- tionally substituted with a member of the group consisting of a (C1-C4)alkyl, (C1- C4)alkoxy, (C1-C4)alkylthio, (C1-C4)al- kylsulfinyl, (C1-C4)alkylsulfonyl, car- boxy, carb(C1-C4)alkoxy, halogen, tri- fluoromethyl and cyano, or R2 is a fura- nyl, furanylmethyl, thienyl or thienyl- methyl group, which enhance myocardial contractile force and are use- ful as cardiotonics in the treatment of heart failure.
