-20- ABSTRACT OPTICAL DEVICE FOR DETECTING FORCE, METHOD OF MEASURING FORCE BY MEANS OF THE SAID DEVICE AND THEIR APPLICATION TO A BALANCE The invention relates to a device and a method of optical detection of force. The device comprises at least one optical fibre (1) arranged in a manner to form an array (2). Light emitting means arranged at a first end of the fibre and light receiving means arranged at the other end of the fibre give information relating to the intensity of light transmitted through the fibre or fibres in the presence of a force and a corresponding measurement of this. Application to weighing apparatus and to plots of pressure maps. Figure 1b.
