ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method for metering the flow of Newtonian liquids in which the liquid to be metered is conveyed through a flow cell having a flow through passage. A heat pulse of constant duration is applied to the liquid and the rate of change of temperature or temperature transient of the liquid is detected with a downstream sensing means. Each detection event triggers the application of a subsequent heat pulse to produce a condition in which the pulse frequency is related to the volumetric liquid flow rate. The period between pulses is recorded. The meter is capable of measuring liquid flow rates between 0.1 and 10.0 cc/min with a precision of at least 0.1 percent. The method is particularly well suited for a high performance liquid chromatography applications. 29,874-F
