ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Diphenylmethanes of the formula I: Image (I) wherein X and Y are each chlorine or bromine, o and p are 0 or 1, R1 and R2 are each alkyl groups containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or are joined together to form a hetero-ring with the nitrogen atom and n is 1, 2 or 3, are effective in the alleviation and prevention of stress- and irritant-induced ulcers in the gastro-intestinal tract. A particularly useful compound is DPPE.
