ABSTRACT "A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE COMPENSATION OF ECHO SIGNALS" For the compensation of echo signals which occur during the duplex transmission of digital signals in a duplex channel system in signal transmission devices (DUE) provided with an echo compensator (EK) it is provided that the clock pulses which are emitted from a clock pulse supply device (T) for the transmission of digital signals can be shifted in their phase in pre- determined phase raster steps. In the event of a change in the relative phase position of the clock pulses less than one phase raster step, correcting signals are produced maintaining the currently set phase position. These correcting signals, together with compensation signals emitted from the echo compensator (EK) for the compensation of the echo signals are subtracted from the received mixture of digital signals and echo signals. Figure 1.
