MEASURING TORQUE AND HOOK LOAD DURING DRILLING ABSTRACT A method of detecting problems in the drilling of a well, the hook load is measured while free rotating, while moving the string out of the well for an incremental distance, and while moving the drill string into the hole the same incremental distance. The hook loads and free rotating torque are plotted as a function of time in order to produce an indication of hole problems.
