Tire Cooling System and Method Abstract A tire cooling system for a vehicle having a wheel with a tire mounted on a rim. A heat transfer device is positioned in a central cavity defined by said rim and tire. A first fluid is contained in said central cavity while a second fluid is circulated through said heat transfer device, said second fluid being in fluid isolation from said first fluid. Said second fluid is circulated through a rotating wheel seal to a heat exchanger and back to said heat transfer device. Use of an intermediate heat exchanger, such as said heat transfer device, permits use of oil as said second fluid permitting leakage from said rotating wheel seals to be contained by and made up from said final drive sump. Oil has, of course, a deleterious affect on rubber. Through use of oil in an isolated cooling loop, relatively simple liquid cooling with an external heat exchanger is achieved.
