ANTICONVULSANT .gamma.-THIOBUTYROLACTONE DERAVITES Abstract of the Disclosure .gamma.-Thiobutyrolactone derivatives having short chain .alpha.- and/or .gamma.- alkyl or alkenyl substituents have useful anticonvulsant properties. These compounds can be represented by the following structural formula: Image wherein R1 = H, alkyl or alkenyl having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, R2 = H, alkyl or alkenyl having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, R3 = H, alkyl or alkenyl having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, R4 = H, alkyl or alkenyl having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, and in which at least one of R1, R2, R3 or R4 is not H.
