RECTIFIED ENSEMBLE AVERAGING SYSTEM Abstract Averaging across an ensemble of electrical responses, each containing a signal corrupted by significant noise, ideally results in a substantial reduction in the noise while leaving the signal intact. However, such ideal result is rarely attained due, mainly, to variations in signal shape and latency across the ensemble. These variations result in overlap between various parts of the signal causing 'flattening' or even cancellation of parts of, or sometimes the entire, signal upon ensemble averaging. The Rectified Ensemble Averaging system disclosed here comprises means for rectifying each response into two or more sections, between certain thresholds, then averaging each section separately across the ensemble of responses, thus effectively isolating the different parts of the signal and minimizing the overlap in the resulting rectified (section) ensemble averages while still reducing the noise power.
