ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved liquid alkenyl succinic anhydride composition having superior paper sizing properties. There is also disclosed a method for the airing of paper and a method for imparting water-repellency to cellulosic fabrics using the composition of the invention. This invention also provides a process for the preparation of alkenyl succinic anhydride from maleic anhydride and a mixture of straight chain alpha olefins in the C13 to C22 range which comprises separating the alpha olefins into a lower boiling fraction and a higher boiling fraction, isomerizing the higher boiling fraction, recombining the two fractions and reacting them with maleic anhydride.
