ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION "A SEMICONDUCTOR POWER SWITCH COMPRISING A THYRISTOR" A power switch comprises an asymmetrically blocking thyristor (ASCR) (1) which is connected in series with a diode (2). Both the ASCR and the diode require only approximately half the central zone thickness as compared with a symmetrically blocking thyristor designed for an equal blocking voltage in the reverse direction (URRM). This results in a substantially smaller turn-off delay charge (Qrr) for the series arrangement. (Figure 1)
