ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of making a gas generator such as a rocket motor. A case is filament wound about a grain which includes solid propellant material which has a modulus of rigidity which is equal to at least about 2000 psi, more preferably at least about 4000 psi. Empty space inwardly of the case envelope is filled with a removable structure having a modulus of rigidity which is equal to at least about 2000 psi, more preferably at least about 4000 psi, to provide support for filament winding of the case. The higher modulus of rigidity is provided to prevent sagging or distortion of the grain during filament winding of the case thereabout. After the case has been wound onto the grain and cured, the removable material is removed there- from.
