Abstract Process of preparing pharmacologically valuable basically substituted pyrid- azines of the general formula I Image (I), wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently of one another have the meanings given in claim 1 and the acid addition salts thereof, by reacting a compound of the general formula V Image (V) wherein Z represents Image or Image and Hal denotes halogen, with a compound of the general formula IV Image (IV) or a compound of the general formula VI Image (VI) with a compound of the general formula IX Image (IX) and, if appropriate, subsequent conversion to the acid addition salt. The new compounds of formula I and their acid addition salts possess valuable pharmaceutical properties, in particular a strong .beta.-adrenalytic cardioselec- tive action.
