Abstract A PTC starter for an asynchronous motor comprises a housing consisting of a base portion (1) and a cover portion (2). The base portion (2) comprises holders adapted to hold a disc-like PTC resistor (12) and sheet metal contact plates (14, 15) on both sides thereof as a loose stack during assembly of the cover portion (2). The contact plates (14, 15) lie against the PTC resistor (12) as the cover portion (2) is placed on the base portion (1). This permits automatic assembly. Damage of the end electrodes of the PTC resistor (12) is avoided.
