ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Two different types of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material (e.g. wood chips) are commonly fed to a single impregnator and refiner in the production of mechanical pulp. First and second presteaming vessels are operatively connected through plug screw feeders to a header, in turn connected to a impregnator (such as an inclined screw impregnator). The impregnator is in turn connected to a refiner. A control device controls the speeds of operation of the motors for the plug screw feeders, thereby controlling the mix of different material species from the presteaming vessels to the impregnator to thereby control the composition of the mechanical pulp being produced.
