A B S T R A C T The invention concerns an improved roll for use in processing flat rolled products. The roll, which will generally be a backing up roll for a work roll, has an outer peripheral portion which is provided with end portions, said end portions being formed as displaceable members extending material at least to approximately the opposite edges of the material to be rolled. The displaceable members are constructed to deflect under the rolling load in a direction and to much a degree to cause a uniform rolling load dis- tribution between the material contacting surface of the work roll and the material being processed.
