ABSTRACT A food processor includes a container, a lid for the container, a funnel-like passage for introducing food into the container, a processing implement in the container and connected to a drive motor, a microswitch, and an inter- ceptor element mounted on the lid for movement from a first position partially closing the food passage to a second position fully exposing the passage. In the first position a portion of the interceptor element engages the microswitch to permit operation of the implement while in the second position the drive motor cannot operate. In the first position it is not possible to insert a hand into the pas- sage, although it is possible to insert long narrow pieces of food such as carrots or celery.
