A low viscosity product is obtained when an adduct is prepared by reacting (A) at least one polyglycidyl ether of a compound containing an average of more than one phenolic hydroxyl group per molecule and (B) at least one aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing 5 to 18 carbon atoms per molecule; wherein components (A) and (B) are present in amounts which provide a ratio of carboxylic acid groups per epoxide group of from 0.01:1 to 0.2:1. The product is useful for preparing coatings, encapsulations, moldings, laminates and the like.
