ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Substituted phenoxyproplonates of the general formula Image (I) in which Ar represents the group Image or the group Image in whlch Y represents a halogen atom or a trl- fluoromethyl qruup and b is 1 or 2, R represents a hydrogan atom or a methyl group, X represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxy group, a and m each lndependently is 1 or 2, and n is 0, 1 or 2, are outstandlngly effective as herbicides. The substituted phenoxypropionates of the formula (I) can be prepared by several processes. Some of the compounds, which are required as starting materials in said processes, are novel.
