ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A diaryl-substituted imidazole fused to a thiazole, pyrrole, thiazine or pyridine ring, or pharmaceutical compositions thereof, are useful in inhibiting the 5-lipoxygenase pathway in an animal in need thereof by administration of an effective, 5-lipoxygenase pathway inhibiting amount of such compound. In particular, the inhibiting compound and pharmaceutical compositions thereof will alleviate the 5-lipoxygenase pathway mediated disease state of rheumatoid arthritis. These compounds do not share the ulcerogenic liability or toxicity of other compounds such as corticosteroids which are used in the treatment of the 5-lipoxygenase pathway.
