The invention concerns a method for detecting a specific binding substance in blood or a derived fraction thereof. In this method one uses the binding affinity between the specific binding substance and its co-reactant. Moreover, a reaction component containing peroxidase activity is applied. The incubation of a reaction mixture containing the specific binding substance and its co-reactant, with the reaction component has to be carried out in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt.
