A control device for electrical wheelchairs or the like. with a control lever to be activated by hand, which, by means of a universal joint, is so supported that it can be displaced in any direction desired, and is prestressed into a central resting position by means of a spring. Two mechanical-electrical adjustment elements are provided, the electrical starting values of which are dependent on their mechanical settings. Two mechanical transmission devices each transfer only one of two movements of the control lever in directions essentially perpendicular to one another to the mechanical-electrical adjustment elements. The mechanical transmission devices are connector link gearings, which can be manufactured simply and inexpensively from thin plates. The arrangement of the mechanical-electrical adjustment elements can be carried out as desired. On the whole, a very low overall construction height results.
