ABSTRACT A traction device for mounting on pneumatic tire to assist in extricating a motor vehicle from snow, ice or mud is disclosed. The traction device, generally U-shaped in cross section, is provided with a wide base having an upwardly-curving segment which results in greater gripping action when the device is mounted on a tire. A cross portion that extends from and is substantially perpendicular to the base portion is included.
