ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to a process for the prepa- ration of primary, secondary and tertiary amines by reacting ammonia or a primary amine with a primary or secondary mono- hydric or polyhydric alcohol over a copper catalyst such as that which forms of its own accord from copper formate under the reaction conditions. This process allows to prepare aliphatic and cycloaliphatic amines and aralkylamines by a route which permits a high yield of the desired products, produces few contaminating by-products and requires only minimal use of catalyst.
