MINIATURE PLUG-IN FUSE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME ABSTRACT A method of making a miniature plug-in fuse starts with a strip or sheet of conductive metal of uniform thickness. A basically U-shaped preform is stamped from the sheet having a pair of spaced parallel legs connected at least one end by a bridge which will constitute the fusible member. The legs are each then folded upon themselves to provide plug-in con- tacts of at least twice the thickness and stiffness of the starting material. Finally, the preform is partially encapsu- lated in an insulating resin leaving the end portion of the contacts exposed but enclosing the upper ends of the legs and forming a handle by means of which the fuse may be inserted and removed from a mating socket. A window is also formed in the resin aligned with the bridge to permit easy visual deter- mination of the continuity of the fusible member and spaced notches are formed in the upper surface of the resin exposing the legs on opposite sides of the bridge to permit electrical continuity testing of the fuse.
